Do what’s right for your brand. Don’t bother worrying with the rest.

In walks Threads app… Every time a new social media app, technology or marketing tool comes out, there is immense pressure around potentially having to learn it, use it, know it, etc. right off the bat.

You do not have to do what you don’t want to do.

Maybe read that again?

As someone who preaches branding, brand voice, brand photos, and why it’s important to always show up in ways that reflect your personal brand and the people you want to connect with, dont forget that all of this is optional.

If Instagram works well for you, great. If LinkedIn is the only social media you use, and it works for you, great. If you have a Facebook group that’s brining in leads consistently, amazing.

Remember:

When you’re stretched too thin, and distracted by shiny object syndrome, you lose track of what’s really important, what will propel you forward, and most importantly, what truly matters and works for you.

Ok, but let’s backtrack. Because you’re probably in one of these categories:

  • You immediately joined Threads, loved the easy profile import and are living your best life over there.
  • You have NO idea what I’m talking about (that’s ok!)
  • You know of it, but really don’t care yet.

Here’s what Threads is:

  • Threads is a new app, built by the Instagram team, for sharing text updates and joining public conversations.
  • You log in using your Instagram account and posts can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.
  • Basically, Meta’s answer to Twitter.

“We built threads with tools to enable positive, productive conversations.”

Here are my thoughts on Threads so far:

Initially, I joined day 2 to claim my username, because you never know… And I like to check out new tech and platforms that come out, poke around a bit, and get a feel for whether or not it’ll be right for my brand and business. So these are very beginning thoughts.

  • This feels like an opportunity to start fresh and shape what we want a new app to be.
    • I’m seeing an overwhelming common energy in wanting this to be a safe space to be yourself, not be sold to and not feel pressure to be “on”. This could be a great thing!
  • People are tired of the fake friend selling and ad overload we see on social, and we need a break from it. Hopefully, this can be a place to get away from it all.
  • I’m not putting strategy into Threads, yes it has my business profile, so I’m going to respect that. But I won’t use it to sell or market, but simply to just be.

So, time will tell if this is another blip in online History, or something that really catches on.

I’m here to tell you, to not forget that all of this is options, and you should only sign up for things that matter to you and ultimately make you happy, or help you meet your goals.

And from a Branding perspective, if it fits your brand, go for it! If it feels off and you want to stay away from it, do so.

If you’d rather focus on building your brand presence online, through visuals that help make your marketing easier, that’s where I can help!

Where to start:

  • If you already feel overwhelmed with social media, forget about it.
  • If you are curious, go check it out. Don’t like it? Move on.
  • Spend some time scroling through posts to see if this might be a place where you feel you could grow a community.
  • Think about what it is that you want from a social media platform, and does this one feel right for you?
  • They do make it super easy to migrate your Instagram profile over (for now), so all you have to do is click a button and you are all set up. I thought that was a super nice touch.

If you think custom Branding photos is the next step is growing your business, showing up online, or just boosting your overall brand, I’d love to work with you.
